Gums are just as important as teeth when it comes to the way your smile looks. Uneven, asymetrical, or excess gums make teeth appear smaller than they actually may be and causes the smile to look "gummy". Contouring the gum tissue is typically the correct and easiest answer to this common problem. Contouring the gum tissue in conjunction when applying veneers, crowns, or other cosmetic prosthesis will make your new smile look even more spectacular.
In some cases, contouring is only part of the solution. Sometimes the bone in front of the root protrudes and needs to be reduced. In cases where the upper lip needs to be "relaxed" so less gum is displayed, there is a procedure for this condition. When working with patients requiring these procedure types, we will refer to a periodontist.
