Our office equipment is technologically advanced to be able to take 3D images of our patient's teeth, mouth, and jaw using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Dr. Carreira is able to use CBCT technology to produce three dimensional (3D) images of parts such as soft tissues, bones, teeth, and nerve pathways in one scan, this is especially necessary when placing implants.
3D X-Rays involve the dentist taking 3D images of the skull and mouth. Unlike traditional x-rays that only develop two-dimensional images of the mouth, the newest technology utilizes 3D x-ray and takes a shorter time to create multiple pictures while being less intrusive to patients than the 2d x-ray. 3D x-rays allow dentists a better and more effective view of the mouth and these pictures are used for treatment planning and diagnosis.
3D X-Ray imagery
Shorter scan times
CBCT scans are able to acquire a complete, accurate scan in a single rotation. The result is fewer chances of image defects as the scan follows the patient’s natural movement. A single rotation means a shorter scan time.
Beam limitation
In CBCT digital process, the radiation is limited to only the mouth or other areas of interest. You are exposed to less radiation unlike with the 2D x-ray.
Details
Unlike 2D x-ray imaging, the 3D dental x-ray allows better detail in just one scan. The dentist is able to catch infections, pathology, muscles, anatomy and other points of interest. Subsequently, the dentist is able to plan for sinus treatment if it is caused by dental issues, extractions, implants, and other dental conditions.
User-friendliness
In addition to the lower radiation advantage, 3D dental x-ray equipment is easy to use for a trained dental technician.
3D display
Dentists value this technology because of its unique ability to display features and images in 3D, which traditional x-rays do not. They have the ability to annotate, magnify, or reorganize data presented on the image.
Accuracy
Thanks to its immense resolution, using 3D imaging allows dentists accurate measurements that may be used to know the exact point where a dental procedure is to be implemented. In addition to image accuracy, 3D X-Ray technology also provides diagnostic accuracy. By being able to differentiate between different tissue types, the dentist is able to identify infections and abnormal sinuses which aids treatment using this digital process.
Bone quality assessment
The 3D digital process is crucial for helping dentists establish/see if there is sufficient bone before implant placement and if there are lesions and breaks including the size of these conditions.
Non-intrusive procedure with minimal radiation exposure
For the patient, prolonged radiation exposure may cause problems including eye damage and other malignancies that may present a health risk. This procedure is also non-intrusive as the technician does not need the patient to do anything.
Lower costs
This technology is less-expensive because the equipment is located in-office and you will never need to go to a third-party to be scanned. You need not wait for days to schedule an appointment or additional days for the results or view the scan.
